Have been invited to Kaj-Ove's (the neighbour) house for new year. Going over at 8 to eat pinnekjøtt (dried, salted, smoked lamb ribs) not my cup of tea but when in Rome!

Just found out that my nephew (19) in Glasgow had disappeared before Christmas for 3 days. He has learning difficulties and you can imagine how worried my brother and his wife were! It turns out that he had taken the huff and gone into the town centre and booked himself into an hotel. He then went shopping but forgot which hotel it was he had booked into. So he spent 3 nights on the streets living rough as he couldn't remember which bus to take home. Luckily he had visited my parents (who are now both dead) on the bus for many years when he was younger, and he knew that the 62 bus went to where they lived and my other brother still lives. So he took that bus, bought a carry out of beer and turned up at his uncles house. Not realising of course that his dad and uncles were out searching the streets for him. All is well now and he is home after much stress. I was a bit annoyed that I wasn't informed when he disappeared, but I am in Norway and he is in Glasgow so there was not much I could do. I guess they had enough to think about.

Fantastic weather here. Snowed today and -7c this evening. Just been for a walk with my daughter Shona, to try and encourage the grandchild to come out. Didn't work yet but we had such a fantastic walk with the northern lights doing themselves proud in a crystal clear sky.

Not long home from what I laughingly call work. Did almost nothing today. Lots of planning for the new year and discussions over this and that. Some nasty person(s) had broken into the air-raid shelter that was built into the mountain by the germans when they were here. Some lights were broken and the air filtering system was messed around with . Managed to get it sorted out and locked up again. No snow yet but threatening. Didn't get above -4c all day. Glad to get home and light a fire. Now patiently waiting on me dinner.

Nothing doing on the new grand child yet. Things are going along rather slowly. Back to work tomorrow after 5 days off. Don't know if I'm depressed or relieved.

Went to the gym tonight and the bloody place was shut. Went for a run in the snow instead.Aching all over now. Been snowing quite a bit here today so that means clearing up the roads at work tomorrow. Spent the whole day today putting up various Christmas tress around the convent. Top job tomorrow is hoovering the moose (don't ask).

Just back from seeing Lord of the Rings Return of the King (or ''Ringenes Herre Atter en Kongen'' here). What a rush! Bernardette (the wife hereafter called B. for obvious reasons) and our two youngest kids, Ruth and Nathan sat completetly enthralled during the entire film. Shelob was a bit scary for them - even though they are 12 and 14. Our oldest daughters (twins - 19) Helen and Shona said it was a bit long in the end but I thought it was wonderful. They obviously have no imagination.
Going climbing tomorrow for a couple of hours to relax before nun bashing on Monday (my job is looking after an old convent).
