Have had a nice relaxing day today. Took Nathan snowboarding and left him there and came home. Ruth was away in town so it was just B. and I. We watched pirates of the Caribbean. Very funny and a very camp Johnny Depp. Shona came for a visit with the two wee ones. Roisin has started walking for more than two or three steps.
Just had a bath and feeling sleepy. Have a MRI scan on my knee early tomorrow morning to see how much damage I have done.

Took a family trip into town this morning and then on to shopping centre afterwards. Such excitement, don't know if I can cope much longer. Good thing is that Shona managed to get my wee grandson registered. This means that he can get a British passport in case we decide to move back to the UK or Ireland. Children here automatically take the nationality of their mother at the time of birth. Everybody has gone out leaving me and the dog to doze on the sofa. Really cold outside and starting to snow again. Trying to get myself interested in doing something constructive - I know I'll have a cuppa :-)

The snow came and it's very cold outside. Now 3pm and have only now managed to get the living room up to 18c. It was 10 this morning. Sun is shining though so at least it is a good start to the day. Going out to a friends house for Fastelavensboller bit like their version of pancake tuesday but it is the last Sunday before Ash Wednesday..

Really pissed off and angry. Caught my youngest daughter smoking in the bathroom. We've known for a long time that she smokes but due to her other problems we've said what we had to say and left it at that. This was the last straw for me. Both my parents died of lung cancer so it is a topic very close to my heart. The young girls here are encouraged to smoke and it really gets me. That these kids who have the advantages of medical knowledge that my parents didn't have can do this to their selves and health is beyond me. Steam coming out of my ears now.
On to a lighter note. Snow forecast for the rest of the week and I'm still on crutches. Bugger it.

God is it Friday already? Have spent the week doing nothing. Went to the docs and now have to go for an MR scan on my knee to see how bad the damage is. Off work for 2 more weeks. A mate of mine from uni' -Pierre- has suggested that we finish of some research we started a couple of years ago so have dived headfirst into that. Good to be doing something at last. Found out my younger brother was in Sweden last week. Would have been nice to be able to meet up but the gods conspired against us.

Feeling cynical? Not me! They said I was world weary and laughed at children.

Just back from the opticians. The thing about getting older is that I need less strong contact lenses every year due to the eyes getting older and more long sighted. Got three more months of daily contact lenses. Would love to be able to afford the operation and get rid of lenses and glasses for ever.
Ruth has gone to weekend at a friend of ours, Nathan is watching Austin Powers in the kitchen and I'm leaving Shona and the two wee ones home and then it's back here for a quiet beer and sleep on the sofa. It's life Jim but......

Have just signed up for this course for 2005. Now just a simple matter of getting to and saving for.

What about this for a story An Australian man attacked by a shark swam and drove for help with the creature still clinging to his leg.
Hopefully I've managed to get the link sorted out.

Seems like I've really buggered up my knee. The doc has put me off on the sick for another week with a check up on Tuesday. I have to let the cartiledge re-grow and so take it easy. Not the case really as we had official visitors about my youngest daughter today and so B. and I spent the morning scrubbing the house. Now paying for it in the ouch factor. Going to get Helen from her dog-watching and then come home for a long bath.

All the kids gone now. Ruth has gone to help Helen house-sitting for a friend, Nathan is staying down with Shona. Just me and B. Having a glass (or two) of wine. The fire is lit. Snowing a blizzard outside. All romanticky and so on. Maybe I should go sit on the sofa instead of playing with the pc.
BTW Paul's mum is on the way to getting better. She is well into her 80's but hopefully she is strong enough to weather the storm.
Hope you've got the kettle on Niles. May come over in March/April.

Went to the opera tonight. Youngest child, Nathan (13), was is the school opera. Basically his class decided to put on an opera. They wrote the music, designed the sets and wrote the lyrics for the entire thing. It lasted about 40mins and was set in a bar in London during the 2ww. Nathan was the all singing all dancing bartender. His girlfriend, Benedikte, was the barmaid and they made a great team. Plot was a comedy in which 2 German spies try to place a bomb but bungle it. Nathan finds the bomb and blows up the bar by mistake. Bit ironic that he, being the only one from NI, got to blow up the bar! All in all it was a very positive evening. They had to raise sponsorship for NOK 3000 (about £250) to cover the costs of the set and so on. After 24 hours of fund raising they had raised NOK 13000 (£1000 -ish). A very proud dad tonight.

Just go some bad news. The mother of a very good friend of mine, Paul, from NI has been rushed to hospital. I've known them for nearly 15 years now. She is a fantastic woman. Hoping and praying that all goes well for her.

Have been really clever today. Went skiing whilst Nathan was snowboarding. Thought I would follow this old geezer off piste as it were. Wrong move. Turns out he knew where the big stone was. I now have a knee the size of a football. Bloody sore too.
