I'm thoroughly done in. Just spent 4 hours chopping down trees and taking away the branches with Olvar. All that after a "hard" days work. Having a nice wee glass of wine and relaxing after a shower. We've had to cancel our planned trip to Crete in May due to Ruth's exam schedule having changed. Never mind we'll get later.

Strathclyde police that is :-)

I've been thinking lately about trying for the police. I did their entrance test and got over 90% for the three parts so that's not a problem. Its the old eyes that is a question. They require that you have uncorrected visual acuity of 6/36 or better. I don't know what I have except that I use -2 lenses. I don't know how this correlates with their requirements but I am going to ring the optician tomorrow and ask.

Sad day today. My brother and nephew wnet back home again this morning. We had a blast. I took them up the nearest mountains, went skiing and snowboarding, there was even some chat about paragliding but that thankfully never happened. I'm very close to William and my nephew and this time together really brought it home to me how much I miss them all. Shit. Homesick again :-(

I'm having a blast with my brother and nephew here. We've been skiing and hill walking. Doing a wee bit of drinking (ouch) but all in the name of good fun. Got a call from a very good friend of mine last night. Liz from Oz and she is waiting on a new arrival in a few weeks. Great to chat to her and hear how things are going for her.

Some people need to get a life. Just listening to Radio Scotland' outdoor programme. Apparently there is a great big outdoorsy exhibition in Birmingham today and the latest "MUST HAVE" for walkers and trekkers is - a banana guard. Apparently this stops your banana from getting crushed in your rucksack. Sad or what!

Big Bro' comes today along with my nephew. We're all off skiing for the duration. I had to spend £60 to get my ski boots fixed but it was really worth it as they are almost like new. I paid £5 for them in a charity shop 2 years ago but they cost £200 new so it was worth every penny.
I've managed to get a really painful eye infection and my right eye looks like I have done 20 rounds with Mohammed Ali. Never mind. Hopefully it will go over soon. I'm going tot he chemist to see what they have to help.
Really excited about Bro' coming :-)

Phew. Am I ever glad I'm finished for the day. The other bloke was sick today and I was left to clear up the snow. 40cm of snow fell yesterday. The most in one day for the last 74 years apparently. Believe me my back is sore. I used the snow blower for most of it but the thing has a mind of its own and can suddenly lurch to the side. Kills the back when it does this. Hoping to go skiing tonight though :-) always the plus side of things.

Well there was a bit of a catastrophe on Wednesday. I went skiing and my skis broke. Not so bad as I only paid £15 for them from a charity shop in town. Sooo I bought a pair for £7.50 from the same shop and they are good. God did I get some speed up tonight. Went swishing and whoshing all evening. I'm now having a glass of plonk and getting ready for bed. Tired and sore but contented. Helen and Shona are 21 tomorrow. It may be a bit old fashioned but in my family this is a big deal. We have decided to send them on a long weekend to Rome. This will be their birthday pressie. I hope they'll like it. Helen is very into history as is Shona. The religious bit doesn't have such as strong appeal for them. It will be just the two of them no husbands or boyfriends or babies. They will have fun I'm sure of it.

Ruth and Nathan went on a school trip to one of the big ski resorts here. Nathan paid for a whole days ski lift for him and snowboard, Ruth paid for sledging. Nathan went up the lift. Hopped off. Snowboarded 20-30m and then crashed into a snow drift and broke 2 ribs. He then had to come home. Expensive ribs. He's a bit sore and lying in bed doped up with painkillers.
On a lighter note. The ski that I damaged at the weekend at 1,000m up was repaired very quickly in the ski shop and she never charged me so I bought some wax for the skis to show how thankful I was. Going skiing tomorrow night for me birfday and hope to do so all evening and come home tired.
Dino has expressed some concerns about my dumping books. No worries, they go to the library and those that can't be used there go to the charity shop. Problem is that they are in english and that market is limited so they can't be sold.
I spent the evening sanding and varnishing the chairs. Sitting here with a varnish smell and going to have a tin of beer. What a life.

Jeez, where does the time go? Monday already. Getting very mild here but there is still lots of snow up with us. Have started blitzing the books up in the upstairs bookshelves and had been trying to no avail to get B. to throw out or at least give away her crime books. I've packed all of the factual books but I'm not allowed near the crime books. I got a leftover piece of lino and laid it in the bathroom tonight and tomorrow I'm going to varnish the wood on the chairs and sofa. Wednesday it's me birfday so I'm taking rubbish to the dump. Yippeeeee.

Feeling a good bit better today. I've taken tomorrow off so that B. and I can spend the day together. We've not really had the chance for a good chat since she came back and now with all the present shit I feel that we need to do some catching up. She surprised me last night in that she said that it was just an obstacle and we will get over it. The surprise was that she would not have been able to be so positive had this happened a few months ago, so my fingers are crossed that she is getting better and that there is indeed light at the end of the tunnel.
Helen has taken her mum out to the flicks to see Constantine or something like that. I have to pick B. up at the train station soon. Looking forward to my day off as it is snowing like mad and I won't have to shovel it :-))))

Really pissed off again tonight and can't seem to pin down the reason. Had a bit of a bad stomach today so came home early, although it now seems to have settled down. Have a big day tomorrow. We are having a fire drill and as I am the fire prevention officer I get to light the "fire". Yippeeee.
My brother nad nephew arrive on the 19th as a belated birthday present for the twins who are 21 on the 12th and as a belated one for me who will be 21.5 *2 on the 9th. Bit of a shame that Shona won't be here but she seems to have settled in quite well in 'Derry and is working away.
